Nathifa (Becky) Cox born in Brooklyn and raised in Trinidad and Tobago began dancing to entertain her family at an early age.
At the age of 12 Becky, a name given to her by friends and family, joined and toured (Grenada and Caricou) with the Marie Brooks Pan Caribbean Dance Troupe. A group located in the (Restoration Plaza) Bedstuy section of Brooklyn, Becky found herself doing what would someday become second nature to her. While attending Ditmas Junior High school, Becky was able to see her choreography through a large mirror and many eyes.
Nathifa (Becky) Cox has been a part of local and community dance groups, schools, and programs such as Shorty’s Out of Control, Young Dance Makers Company, DanceWave Inc. and many others including her very own groups. Choreography became natural to her and once given the platform to connect to her talent she achieved a scholarship for California Institute of the Arts.
She recalls her dance teacher, Ms. Simpson at Erasmus Hall/Humanities High School persistently pushing her. Nathifa was introduced to dance history, introduction to Ballet and Modern Techniques: entitled Martha Graham. Ms. Simpson also showed a variety of videos, and gave weekly quizzes while introducing tons of bad-mannered little girls to Flaminco dance, and because of that Nathifa will take those experiences with her forever. While enrolled at CalArts, Nathifa (Becky) Cox performed immensely within dance programs during the holidays and took advantage of breaks in between! Nathifa also taught dance throughout Brooklyn’s PAL (Police Athletic League).
A woman that truly loves and lives to dance, also taught dance with Groundworkinc. an after school program. She worked with the Board of Education by teaching in schools located in the downtown areas in Brooklyn and Queens.
She is known for her no nonsense, thorough attitude and accepts nothing but greatness from her students! Trained with the best, she tutored with Mary Anthony a pioneer in Modern Dance; and had the pleasure of performing extensively with fabric, positioning her in unique environments. Later Nathifa teamed up with “HumanKinectics”, Yana S. and eventually performed in “Dreamgirls” on off-Broadway with wonderful cast members from CCC under Ben Harney.
Nathifa went on to establishing Everything Brooklyn Inc. at Becky’s Dance program in 2010. She has offered quality inexpensive dance training to inner city youth in areas such as East New York Brooklyn, Flatbush, Bedstuy, Brownsville, and Rockaway Queens.
